Dreamhack Masters 1700 dollar tickets sell out: ”An unique experience”
avEsports are well on their way to competing with traditional sports in terms of stadium events and attendance.
One – of many – testaments to that fact is the upcoming Dreamhack Masters in Malmö where the most expensive tickets sold out after 24 hours.
– I don’t know why, but apparently CS:GO fans seek an unique experience and are not afraid to pay for it. Our Skyboxes went for 1 700 dollars, says Tomas Lyckedal, business development director at Dreamhack, to Aftonbladet Esport.
In a couple of months Dreamhack Masters comes to Malmö in the southern part of Sweden. The tournament will be held in April with group stages taking place in a studio until the professional players who qualify for the playoffs move to Malmö Arena.
And the event is looking to become one of Dreamhack’s most successful ones yet, at least in terms of ticket sales.
– Of course we were a bit nervous ahead of the tickets being made available, but that nervous feeling have disappeared. The southern parts of Sweden obviously love esports and there seems to be a big interest for CS:GO, says Tomas Lyckedal, business development director at Dreamhack, to Aftonbladet Esport.
– We have sold more tickets to Malmö in a couple of days than we have sold to most of our events in Stockholm. Besides Dreamhack in Jönköping, this will soon surpass any other of our events in only one week.
As the tickets became available, the most expensive ones sold out in 24 hours. For 1 700 dollars people bought Skyboxes inside Malmö Arena.
– Due to our esports stage we can have 10 000 people inside the stadium, but we are still in discussions on how we could change the layout to welcome even more people.
