Dreamhack Winter 2014 will now take place along side ESL One Cologne and the others as a major in CS:GO. The announcement became official during friday night, and the prize pool reach upwards to 250 000 dollars.
– We’re extremely excited about this opportunity and we have a lot of new ideas how the tournament will be presented on-site and online, and hope to offer one of the very best tournaments to date, said Tomas Lyckedal, head of esports at Dreamhack, in a press release.

We all thought that this years last major already was played when ESL One Cologne ended with a victory for Ninjas in Pyjamas. However, on friday night Dreamhack announced that their Winter tournament will be an official major – backed by Valve.
– This crowd-funding initiative began around one year ago at Dreamhack Winter 2013 and has elevated the interest for competitive CS:GO tournaments, Tomas Lyckedal, head of esports at Dreamhack, said in a press release.

”Unique oppertunity”

The tournament will be held between 27 and 29 october in Jönköping, Sweden. The eight top teams from Cologne have already been invited to the tournament, the other eight will be determined by online qualification. But the buck don’t stop there. The teams will be given the same opportunity to practice before the big tourney.
– This will be a unique opportunity to build hype before the event and give all team equal training conditions, Tomas Lyckedal said in aforementioned press release.

The teams invited are as follows: Ninjas in Pyjamas, Fnatic, Titan, Team Dignitas, Virtus.Pro, Cloud 9, Epsilon and Na’Vi.
