This September ESL will organize a tournament in Dubai where five teams from Europe and one team from the States will compete for 250 000 dollars.
One team that wasn’t invited, though not lacking recent success, is Team SoloMid.

ESL One in Cologne is looming large on the CS:GO horizon. The second major of the year will as always garner huge viewership numbers as the worlds biggest FPS keep on growing.
With the major just weeks away, ESL presented ESL Pro League Invitational. A six-team tournament to be held in Dubai alongside the GAMES 15 festival taking place in the same city between September 10-12. The six teams attending the tournament where handed out invites that allegedly corresponded to the best ranked teams in both Europe and North America.

”Punished for prioritizing important events”

With the list, ESL has determined the best team in NA to be Cloud9 and subsequentally, Fnatic, Na’Vi, Team EnvyUs, Virtus.Pro and Ninjas in Pyjamas are the best teams in Europe. A ranking that made Peter ”dupreeh” Rothmann of Team SoloMid rather upset.
– It’s only laughable. We’ve won four out of six tournaments, and at least 2-3 teams of the current ESL ranking were attending. This ranking is just as inaccurate as the rankings on ongamers.com, he says to Aftonbladet Esport and continues:
– Teams like us, are punished for prioritizing important events, where teams that attend as much as possible is getting more points even if they are eliminated before group stages. It’s so stupid that quantities greater than quality when it comes to rankings.

Will use the rank for seeding in the future

ESL has released an article on their website regarding the world rankings, where they also detail how the ranking system works.
”As CS:GO begins to grow all over the globe, assessing a team’s current rank becomes more and more difficult. We are introducing World Ranking in order to have a reliable public indicator of how well each team has done in CS:GO, and we are planning to use it for seeding and selection purposes in the future,” Vice President Ulrich Schulze, of Pro Gaming at ESL, proclaims in the article.
