Two of the top players in the world have already been banned suspected of cheating.
And Ninjas in Pyjamas manager and Counterstrike legend Emil ”HeatoN” Christensen hints that this is only the tip of an iceberg.
– Valve has initiated a huge investigation so more players will probably get caught. This is a sad side effect of the game growing so much, he says.

On Thursday, Hovik ”KQLY” Tovmassian and Gordon ”Sf” Giry, from Titan and Epsilon Esports respectively, were VAC banned and suspected of cheating. Following the ban both teams were dropped from the DreamHack Winter lineup and as Valve is looking into the matter, Emil ”HeatoN” Christensen thinks more players might be caught.
– Since this has come to Valve’s attention they’ve launched a huge investigation, so more players will probably get caught. These cheats are not something you can spot while just standing by the screens. It’s a bit like doping for athletes.

”It’s a sad side effect”

HeatoN also mentions how the rapidly expanding scene and steadily growing prize cheques, where the gamers can earn six or even seven figures during a year, will undoubtedly get shady people interested in the sport.
– It’s really a sad side effect of the game growing so much.

To counter any cheat attempts, DreamHack have now said that they’re looking into ”special precautions” for the upcoming major DreamHack Winter, where the prize pool for CS:GO is 250 000 dollars.
