KennyS on the AWP nerf and DHS: ”I was losing confidence”
avFew, if any, professional players are as adored for their level of play as Kenny ”KennyS” Schrub.
This weekend, Titan will travel to Sweden to participate in Dreamhack Summer, and they do so with a main AWP:er who was in a very bad place after the AWP nerf.
– Actually I fell into a bad spot, I was already in bad shape and I was losing confidence, the world famous superstars says to Aftonbladet Esport.
Kenny ”KennyS” Schrub is widely considered one of the most dominating players to ever have graced the CS:GO scene. With his extreme talents on the AWP, he has carried most teams he has been a part of and is the most vital component on Titan.
KennyS has been a force to be reckoned with ever since VeryGames were the only team to actually stand a chance against Ninjas in Pyjamas. For the past three years, the sight of KennyS with an AWP in his hands has made the best players in the world shiver.
– I’ve never been scared of anyone, but I’m scared of KennyS, Olof ”olofmeister” Kajbjer told Aftonbladet Esport ahead of the first major tournament of the year.
”T side was harder for me”
Yet, ever since the nerf of the sniper rifle, Titan and KennyS have struggled to compete. With few exceptions, the team has fallen short during the latest tournaments, despite the talent on the squad.
– It took a long time to adapt to the changes, especially to the facts that the nerf has somewhat affected my play style, KennyS says to Aftonbladet Esport during Titans bootcamp before Dreamhack Summer, and he continues:
– The aggressive style of play on the CT side has not changed at all, but the T side was harder for me because I had to be less aggressive since it became way harder to peek and get the first kill. I struggled at the beginning, but you just have to play and get used to it, I don’t see the difference now.
”I fell into a bad spot”
How was it like for you personally and on a emotional level going through those rough times?
– Actually I fell into a bad spot, I was already in bad shape and I was losing confidence, then when I was able to test the update I said something like : ”Oh no, they can’t be serious ”. It was really a tough time, but like I said you’re getting more used to it the more you play.
While some of the games biggest stars have taken to Twitch to broadcast themselves and showcase who they are as a person, KennyS alongside his teammates have yet to take that step. In terms of personality, KennyS describes himself as a emotional and very dynamic person.
– Sometimes I overreact. When we’re winning, having confidence could be a great thing, but totally the opposite when things goes wrong. I’ve been working really hard on it and lately and I have been able to make it better, but a lot of effort has to be made still.
”Being knocked out is always a big disappointment”
As Titan lost to PENTA Esports during the group stage of Katowice, one of the big favorites at the tournament was knocked out after only two games. When the last shot was fired and the smokes had evaporated, a tarnished and teary eyed superstar sat and glanced at the computer screen.
– We are all playing to win, nothing else. So being knocked out from a major so early it’s always a big disappointment, I think our last win at a big tournament was when we won DreamHack Stockholm.
Are you guys arguing while the game is going? And if so, can you talk about it after the game and become friends again immediately?
– When the game is going we’re really trying to speak about important things that we’ve to change directly, the rest have to wait after the game. Although its unpleasant, we have to speak about it after the game in debriefing. Even if it’s hard, we are trying to remain calm in all circumstances while the game.
”We’re aware of our great potential”
How are you feeling ahead of Dreamhack. You have, with a few exceptions, been knocked out in big tournaments way too early considering how talented you guys are?
– At this moment a lot of things are lacking in our team, like consistency, being able to be at 100 percent in the beginning of the match, KennyS says and continues:
–But we’re all aware about our great potential. Our preparation is going pretty well and we’re currently in bootcamp to prepare for this event.
At Dreamhack Summer, Titan will face off against the likes of Fnatic, Na’Vi and Ninjas in Pyjamas. As the players are gearing up for what will be a thrilling tournament, KennyS is delighted to once again visit Sweden and Jönköping.
– Sweden is definitly one of my favourite countries. It is the home of Counter Strike and the crowd at Dreamhack is awesome, so it is always a pleasure to go there.
