Pimp: ”We need to take the last step on LAN tournaments”
avThe Danish CS:GO scene was for the longest time in turmoil, but with new organizations recruiting teams the scene has stabilized and become more professional according to Team Dignitas player Jacob ”Pimp” Winneche.
He hopes that will contribute to further strengthen the teams in the country.
– Before, people would’ve refused to play with certain other players. Now you have to fight through the hard times, he tells Aftonbladet Esport.
Dignitas failed to win the online qualifiers to DreamHack Summer Open, and after that the last resort to make the competition was through the BYOC qualifiers at the event. Besides the lacking quality when it comes to tables and chairs for the players, and a slump that they’ve now worked their way out of, Jacob ”Pimp” Winneche and his team enters the competition with a solid confidence.
– We’ve had a really bad period and lost against teams we shouldn’t lose to, including Flipsid3. The last week we’ve been back to our normal selves and I don’t think we’ve lost a single map during the twelve latest matches, against teams like Virtus.Pro, Flipsid3 and Team Acer. So we are feeling great coming in to this tournament, the player tells Aftonbladet Esport.
”We need to take the last step on LAN”
He’s only worried by one thing: The more unknown Swedish teams.
– It’s BO1 at the beginning, so let’s say we don’t feel warmed up and we’re meeting some good aiming Swedish mix team, then it could be a problem. We could eventually loose and they could cause an upset, but we should qualify. This is a no brainer to us.
What do you see in the future for your team?
– We’ve beaten teams like Virtus.Pro and EnVyUs in BO3:s, so we’re close to them. We just need to take the last little step on LAN tournaments to get there.
Has the recent Team SoloMid success put any extra pressure on you guys?
– TSM have been the best team Danish team for two years, ever since Western Wolves was brought down.
– There’s no added extra pressure, it’s been like this for a while. I think it’s great for TSM that they achieved some success. They have been in a slum and couldn’t quite make it either, going out in quarterfinals and semifinals.
”Now you can’t make rushed decisions”
When it comes to the Danish scene’s development, Pimp describes it as a bit of a mess. The last couple of months organizations like Team SoloMid and Dignitas have become engaged and according to Pimp that has led to the scene becoming more stable.
– These are two very big organizations with contracts that actually validate. You don’t get to leave and make those rushed decisions anymore. It’s a bit more structured and a bit more professional.
What do you think that’ll do for the scene in the long run?
– I think it’s gonna have a good effect and it already has been. We have established ourselves as a top 8-team which is great considering how strong the scene is and how many teams there are. I don’t think that would’ve been possible wouldn’t we have an organization like Dignitas behind us. As I said, we’ve have experienced a down period and normally in Denmark someone would’ve made a rush decision and maybe refused to play with certain other players. That’s not a possibility anymore, now you just have to stick together and fight through the hard times. It has a good effect on all teams I think.
