DreamHack on the KittyPlaysGames comments: It’s deplorable
avThe popular streamer KittyPlaysGames was announced as a guest streamer at DreamHack Winter earlier today.
But when the news broke, DreamHacks Facebook page was soon filled with comments about her personality and ability, and the organization had to moderate the page.
– Our opinions on this matter are crystal clear and that there are people spreading evil and hatred on the internet and IRL is deplorable, says Fredrik Nyström at DreamHack.
The streaming section of DreamHack Winter is a new feature at the festival and the arrangers have announced such casters as Chance ”Sodapoppin” Morris and Yacine ”YZN” Laghmari.
But when the news broke about DreamHack inviting Canadian streamer KittyPlaysGames, who has a following of around 185 000 people, the comment section on their Facebook page soon filled up with various comments, questioning why she should even attend the event:
”Pick someone that knows how to play”
”So DH is going this path eh? Getting a woman that can’t play for shit and uses her stream as a fashion show to get more views” .
”This chick is such a troll like that one dumb bitch who plays league and she isnt even good quit fucking promoting bullshit female streamers who aren’t good at games”
”At least pick someone that knows how to play the fucking game. It’s so annoying when these trash players get so much attention just for their beauty; it’s such a waste of time watching them play.”
”Our opinions are crystal clear”
According to DreamHacks policies regarding these matters, they have ”A zero tolerance regarding; demeaning language, threats, hate crimes as well as statements that threatens or expresses contempt of ethnicity, religious belief, sexual orientation and gender identity”, and after moderating the more explicit comments the company now takes a stand against the reaction to their news.
