Fnatic’s Quackniix: ”In the near future I believe Dignitas will be our biggest threat”
avFnatic won Dreamhack Winter 2015 in the grand finals against their biggest rivals, Team Liquid.
And even though the newly recruited Fnatic player Dob ”Quackniix” Engström thinks Liquid will continue to be strong in the future, there is another team that might impress more.
– In the near future I believe Team Dignitas will be our biggest threat, Quackniix tells Aftonbladet Esport.
The power house of Fnatic have been struggling in Heroes of the Storm. Their rosters have gone through major changes on several occasions, and now it seems they might finally be on the right track.
About two months ago three of the former Fnatic players were let go from the team. Instead former Pirates of Pyjamas players, Filip ”Smexystyle” Liljeström and Dob ”Quackniix” Engström, were recruited.
And apparently they were in a rush to prove themselves. At Dreamhack Winter 2015 they went on to beat one of the best teams out there, Team Liquid, to win the entire tournament.
– It feels amazing. Liquid have always been in the top and will probably continue to be there, but I believe we’re currently the strongest team in Europe and we’re going to work so hard to remain in this position, newly recruited Quackniix tells Aftonbladet Esport.
”Dignitas will be our biggest threat
In the final of Dreamhack, Fnatic went up against Team Liquid, the squad that has been one of the absolute top teams in the heroes community for a long time. Soon, however, Quackniix thinks a new team might rise to the challenge.
– In the near future I believe Dignitas will be our biggest threat, the Fnatic star says and continues:
– Many players in that rosters are among the absolut best in their respective roles. For a long time they’ve been top 3 in Europe and with their recent changes I think they will only grow stronger.
”We’re getting better all the time”
Quackniix and Smexystyle have previously played together in Pirates of Pyjamas, the team Aftonbladet Esport met up with shortly before they traveled to Prague, Czech Republic, to compete in Road to Blizzcon.
Quackniix says that when the rumors started spreading about Fnatic preparing to change players, he thought he’d might get asked. A while later, Pontus ”Breez” Sjögren popped the big question and through Quackniix the PiP player Smexystyle also got a shot.
– Thomas ”Ménè” Cailleux and Breez were going to rebuild the team and they needed a support player. I suggested Smexy.
So far so good, it seems, and Quackniix says things are feeling great.
– In terms of gameplay and syncing strategies, we’re only getting better and better all the time.
– We need to practice team play and really react when someone makes a call. A good call can become bad just if someone’s not quick enough to react or don’t do what’s expected.
”You really just had to remain cool”
Ahead of Dreamhack things within the team were shaky. Even though their scrim results initially had been fantastic, they were dipping lower and lower the closer Dreamhack came.
– We really just had to remain cool and show that we’ve got the right mentality.
With their first LAN victory all doubt faded.
– It was a huge morale boost, and everyone got really motivated. We just knew it was going to be a good tournament.
Fnatic are officially down to four players. The Spanish stand-in Shad is currently playing as their fifth, but only on a trial basis. Exactly what their lineup might going to look like remains to be seen, but Quackniix says they are likely to play with Shad for quite some time and that they’re not trying out any other players.
