Giants Gaming have, with six games remaining in the summer split, a good shot at cementing a place in the playoffs. With eleven games under his belt during his first stretch in the upper upper echelon of League of Legends, the Swede Oskar ”G0DFRED” Lundström have become the shot caller at Giants Gaming and is enjoying his time in Berlin.
– It took about three weeks before I felt like I was on par with everything. I had no prior experience of LCS or Challenger teams, but it has gone pretty good so far, he says to Aftonbladet Esport.

Few, if any, had heard of Oskar ”G0DFRED” Lundström when Giants! Gaming announced they had signed the young Swede. According to several experts, Giants! Gaming were considered to be the big punching bag during the summer split.

With only six games remaining, the Spanish organization have a good shot at a playoff berth. For the 19-year old G0DFRED, the transition from a life in Sweden to a entirely new experience in Giants! Gaming house in Berlin have been fairly easy.
– The most difficult aspect was to learn how cook food in the apartment instead of going out and getting stuff to eat, he says with a laughter:
– In all seriousness, what I’ve been focusing on have been to scrim as much as possible against the other teams and learning as much as I can from those games.

”I want to improve”

Although Giants! Gaming currently sit at a healthy fourth place, the shot caller still feels like there’s a lot of stuff the team could improve.
– Everything have been working fine considering the expectations on this team prior to this season. It is obviously difficult for me to determine since I have no experience from this level of play. I am glad, however, that I have come in to the role as shot caller on the squad, that the team is listening to me and that they are coming with good calls as well.
– I think we need to get better at reviewing past games and become better at picking the spots when we commit to a team fight. At the moment, we are a bit to eager when it comes to fighting.

What was your goal when you signed with Giants! Gaming and moved to Berlin?
– I want to improve during my stint here, both as a player as well as a teammate. But in terms of short term success, the goal obviously was to make the playoffs.

”It is hard to speculate about”

During the summer split, Sweden is represented by seven players with Martin ”Rekkles” Larsson in Fnatic probably being the most famous out of the group. Ever since Ninjas in Pyjamas, more acclaimed for their CS:GO team, no Swedish organization have been close to qualify for the LCS. When asked, Oskar ”G0DFRED” Lundström, told Aftonbladet Esport that he could see an all Swedish team on the scene in the foreseeable future.
– It is hard to speculate about, but the talent is obviously there. If there are serious people who can lure the players to such an organization and get the pros to click, I can see that being a possibility in the close future.

The LCS, both in Europe as well as in North America, is filled with drama. How have you experienced that part of the professional scene during your time in Berlin?
– I usually don’t think to much about the ’drama’, it can be a bit entertaining to read stuff I didn’t know but in general the drama is not something that effects me. Personally I haven’t been in any drama, so it can be difficult to relate to how it would feel to be in the middle of the storm, G0DFRED concludes with a small laughter.
