Dreamhack in London was the opening event for the Swedish LAN giant’s new Smash project.
World champion Adam ”Armada” Lindgren won the title in England, but he thinks the upcoming events in Jönköping and Austin will be way more prestigious.
– It’s very exciting actually, because you know it’s going to get better up ahead, the star tells Aftonbladet Esport.

Dreamhack are establishing themselves in the Super Smash Bros Melee community. This weekend at Dreamhack in London their first of three tournaments were settled. One of the persons competing for the title in England was the Swedish EVO15 winner Adam ”Armada” Lindgren.
– I think the event was excellent, Armada says and continues:
– Everything went smoothly and there were a lot of stations to play at during competition and for free play. It was really great.

”It’s the victory that counts”

Armada was crowned champion after coming out victorious from the final against Weston ”Westballz” Dennis. Still, the swede doesn’t seem particularly satisfied.
– I was just happy that I won. I wasn’t very content regarding my performance, but it’s the victory that counts, Amada says.
– It was mostly just technical stuff and small details that didn’t pan out for me.

How did it feel to win the Dreamhack title?
– It was really nice. I’ve wanted that title for a while, but haven’t been able to win it since Smash hasn’t been a part of Dreamhack.

”We have the chance – we just have to take it”

The Dreamhack event in London was the first of three to host a Smash tournament. The record breaking LAN in Jönköping, Sweden, with tens of thousands of visitors, will also be hosting one. After that Dreamhack travels to Austin, Texas, to organize their first ever event in North America.

The opening event in London, however, became somewhat disappointing. Another big tournament was held the same weekend in California, and because Dreamhack announced their tournament only one month before the event itself, a lot of players couldn’t attend. Armada think the upcoming events in Jönköping and Austin will be better.
— I honestly think it’s a title that will grow. Dreamhack collided with HTC and we didn’t really get to face the greatest opposition. Dreamhack Winter will be much more prestigious and a lot more people will attend, Armada says and continues:

Last week on Tuesday the tickets for Dreamhack’s first North American event were released. At the same time Smash fans from all over the world received good news. The Swedish LAN giants confirmed, 8 months ahead of the event, that a Smash tournament would be hosted in Austin. The bring-your-own-computer tickets sold out in 24 hours.
– It was a big relief for me, because we knew that Dreamhack London was announced quite late – which meant not as many people attended as one might’ve hoped.
– Now there’s a huge opportunity both in Europe and in USA. We have the chance, we just have to take it, Armada says.
