This weekend is extra long due to Memorial Day (I’ll take Monday off, not complaining) and on top of everything the weather is gorgeous. So my boy friend and I had dinner outside last night at West Village hot spot Morandi. The bibb salad looks simple, but it had an amazing dressing that was like fireworks for my taste buds.

Yes, you’re right bee pollen and honey are products produced by animals (those little tiny guys you try to avoid on hot summer days), but with that said many raw foodist still choose to eat them due to the enormous amount of benefits. I throw both in my smoothie a few times a week.

”Bee pollen is granulated pollen gathered by the bees and is one of nature’s most complete, nutritious foods. About 40 percent protein, half of which is free amino acids, bee pollen supplies humans with almost every essential element we need to survive. It has markedly high in folic acid, vitamins, and nucleic acids, and is thought to help cure chronic digestive and autoimmune diseases. And women, listen up: Not only has bee pollen been tapped to stimulate the production of eggs from ovaries, it also plays a role in preventing and treating such cancers as breast and uterine. In this case, a spoonful of honey just might save your life,” (Raw Food, Real World, pg. 87).

Raw honey is rich in B-complex vitamins, vitamins C, D, & E. It is a great source of enzyme amylase, which helps to break down sugars. Please make sure to buy raw honey!

Wellness to me is music, it brings out so many amazing emotions, memories, and thoughts. My new favorite tune that I plug into during my morning powerwalks is Peter Conradi’s new single WFSBN (Wanna Feel so Brand New) produced by Niklas Von Arnold.

In the town where someone rose a flag saying ”Feelings are facts,” WFSBN was released. 4 minutes to break our hearts open. A reminder that dreams are what keeps us running. You could call it dream soul, but you could also call it a new direction. We just call him Peter. Your call.

SUPA DUPA BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE

Love breakfast! Nothing better than a beautiful smoothie in the morning to start your day. Actually received this recipe from my awesome nutritionist Nikki Ostrower.

Supa Dupa Blueberry Smoothie: Blend the following ingredients…. 1 c water, handful of  baby spinach and/or kale, BIG handful of blueberries, 1 handful of raspberries, 1 tbs coconut oil, 1 tsp raw honey, 1 tsp bee pollen, 1 scoop Green Vibrance.

If there are any ingredients you do not have, don’t worry about it. Throw in any substitute you wish.

Here is today’s lunch from Bonobos (on 23rd Street) – consists of tahini pate, sprouts (so freakin good for you), diced cucumber, carrots, beets, red onion, good old lettuce, and agave mustard dressing. Simply a bowl of deliciousness!

A girl at work also surprised me with a bowl of fresh strawberries. Overall it was a pretty good day.

One of my favorite people is Marie Forleo – she is such an inspiration to women of our generation, teaching us how to live a fulfilled balanced life, leading to success in all aspects. From her book, Raw Food, Real World, ”I feel like I have a very clear understanding now of what my body needs and craves–some days I eat very little, some days much more. At times I can’t get enough salad, wanting to eat bowlful after bowlful, while other days I’m not that interested and eat more fruit or I’ll have some of the more complex dishes from our restaurant. I honestly don’t crave processed sugary food ever. What I do crave from time to time is raw cookies and ice creams, and I love that I can eat those whenever I want and not gain weight. All of the anxiety and guilt I used to associate with eating is gone, so in addition to being lighter physically, I feel lighter emotionally. I feel like I’m going through life now with a little happiness buzz,” (pg. 11).

Our friends Martin & Jennifer flew in from Stockholm for the weekend (woohoo!), and so naturally we headed to brunch at Pastis on Saturday. I’ve said this before, but when it comes to brunch there is always a fruit salad on the menu, and orange juice (make sure it’s freshly squeezed though…), so go for that.

Since I ran yesterday morning, and knew a fruit salad would not fill me up, I had an omegalicious smoothie an hour before at our apartment. Prepare, prepare, prepare!
