Hello raw clarity friends!

With all the great food and health tips Filippa gives us here, eating mindfully seems like a natural addition to the information on Raw Clarity.

As part of my yoga teacher training, yogic eating (or eating with awareness) is part of our program.   Since we all lead such busy lives, lunch is commonly eaten while working at a desk and breakfast is usually taken on the go. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re fueling our bodies.

While not every meal has to be eaten this way, aim for once a day. Here are the eating awareness guidelines. Download them and hang them in your kitchen or eating area to remind you to tune in and mindfully feed your body – it will allow you to truly enjoy your food.

-Remain seated.

-Refrain from conversation while chewing.

-Place your utensil down between each bite. Wait until food is completely chewed & swallowed before picking up your utensil your next bite.

-Refrain from external distractions, including reading, watching TV, listening to music, phone, etc.

-Put no more than two handfuls of food on your plate at a time. Finish eating your two handfuls, then wait 3-5 minutes before taking more food.

-wait until food is completely digested (2-6 hours) before your next meal or snack.

… in love with Bikram Yoga! Took 1.5 hour class in downtown Miami and have never felt better. Wow. I was dripping in in sweat and felt fantastic all day. So why the heat? Read below…

Bikram Yoga is not just yoga performed under warm conditions, it involves a specific order of poses as well as an exact environment. Our 105F degree weather allows for you to become more flexible – the heat promotes your body’s flexibility. The heat also rids your body of the toxins in possesses through your profuse sweating.

The goal of yoga is to change and mold your body from the core-out, and the heat allows for your body to soften for the metamorphosis – a warm body is a flexible body. Your body is more relaxed, thus making it easier to move, and your muscles are toned by the entire experience. Through your perspiration your body is detoxified. Every cell and organ is flushed out. Whatever your previous experience is with yoga, your age, weight, or gender, Bikram Yoga will prove to be not only an effective experience, but a challenging and novel one as well.

You know I can’t visit Miami without swing by Glaser Farms in Coconut Grove, so pretty much headed there straight after landing in this paradise… Stocked up for the week! Wish this was my regular ”grocery store.”

WHAT ARE THE DIRTY DOZEN?

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) released 2012 updates to the Dirty Dozen—a list of the 12 most pesticide-contaminated fruits and vegetables—adding cucumbers to the list, in addition to a new “plus” category to indicate produce that didn’t meet the Dirty Dozen criteria, but are still contaminated with organophosphate insecticides, which are toxic to the nervous system.

Here’s the updated Dirty Dozen:

  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Sweet bell peppers
  4. Peaches
  5. Strawberries
  6. Imported nectarines
  7. Grapes
  8. Spinach
  9. Lettuce
  10. Cucumbers
  11. Blueberries
  12. Potatoes
