WATERMELON LIKES TO PLAY ALONE.

av Filippa Salomonsson

watermelon-juice

Watermelon is kinda like warm lemon water, it should be consumed alone and first thing in the morning. It is made of 92% water and will clean out your system. If eaten with other foods it will ferment inside the stomach until everything else has been digested – causing bloating and gas.

I love to juice it and make a big tall glass of watermelon yumminess. And it’s fine to eat the seeds, they contain protein and B vitamins.

Also, watermelon contains the red pigment, lycopene which is proving to prevent cancer!! Good for us…

SHE’S FAR FROM CLUELESS IN THE KITCHEN…

Read the first page of Alicia Siverstone’s book, The Kind Diet. Love her philosophy…

”diet:  (noun) a way of living, or thinking, a day’s journey”
”This was the definition of diet  when it entered the English language in the mid-1600s. So simple! So sane! How  did this cute little word become synonymous with deprivation, suffering,  and—let’s be honest—total hell?
With the Kind Diet, we are returning the  word to its original definitions, for this journey is about changing how you  think and live, one day at a time. And by allowing your mind and your choices to  change, you will see amazing—even magical—results. It won’t happen overnight,  but it will happen, I promise, because it happened to me: By eating satisfying,  delicious, plant-based foods, I was released from the prison of  dieting.
Oh, the freedom of that! How amazing it is never to have to  start another diet! To be able to think about my life, and the world, instead of  spazzing out about calories and constantly asking myself, ”Can I eat that?” It’s  like I got my brain back! These days, I get to eat as much as I want of foods  that I love, and I never have to fear them. I feel truly and deeply nourished by  food. I’m so grateful for that.
But what do I mean by ”kind”? Well,  let’s start with you. This is about being really, really good to yourself. The  Kind Diet will give you tons of energy, mental clarity, gorgeous skin, and a  zest for life you won’t want to miss. Plus, it’s powerful; doctors like Dean  Ornish and John MacDougall have discovered that plant-based diets have the power  to reverse heart disease, diabetes, even cancer. So this is about treating  yourself like a total goddess and putting yourself first.
And you  deserve that kindness, my friend. I used to equate having self-worth with being  selfish, but now I understand that taking care of myself is the most beautiful  thing I can do. And quite frankly, I can’t be a good actor, I can’t be a good  wife, friend, or mother (to my dogs) . . . I can’t be a good anything until I’ve  taken care of myself first. So this kindness to yourself is paramount.
And it doesn’t stop there. This kindness extends to the earth itself;  because it requires less fuel, water, and other precious resources, a plant  based diet is much lighter on the planet. And because it is clean, this diet  helps our soil, water, and atmosphere get healthy as well. You will see that the  Kind Diet reduces planetary suffering on all levels; following a plant-based  diet is just about the greenest thing you can do.”

Want to change ONE thing in your diet? My first suggestion is always to incorporate green juice! It is like taking a natural multi-vitamin. It will help decrease cravings as well, since your body is receiving nutrients…

Here is a basic recipe: 3 kale leaves, 2 handful of spinach, 1/4 lemon, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 green apple, small piece of ginger, & 4 small celery sticks. Juice and drink!

The one I made today was out of this world. SO GOOD.

RUNNING: OUTSIDE VS. INSIDE

av Filippa Salomonsson

Do you love running inside? You might want to reconsider… The benefit of running outdoors does not only include the beautiful scenery, but you’re inhaling a better, fresher quality of oxygen (and not the stuff that was just inside the lungs of the treadmill dude right next to you).

We can go days without food and water, but only seconds without air. Get out there and breath in the beautiful bliss of life.

See you later. Or along the Hudson River where I’m heading next for a Sunday jog… xx

So by now you probably know that I am all about GREENS… so when I saw that there was a dandelion salad at Organic Avenue, it was in my shopping cart in 2.5 seconds. And yes, to clarify, I’m talking about the plant that your mom probably riped out of her rose garden and saw as an ugly looking thing. But let me tell you, it ain’t ugly for the body.

Dandelions rate in the top 4 green vegetables in terms of nutritional value. No brainer, eat the damn thing. 🙂

Here is what is also does: ”…prevent or cure liver diseases, such as hepatitis or jaundice; act as a tonic and gentle diuretic to purify your blood, cleanse your system, dissolve kidney stones, and otherwise improve gastro-intestinal health; assist in weight reduction; cleanse your skin and eliminate acne; improve your bowel function, working equally well to relieve both constipation and diarrhea; prevent or lower high blood pressure; prevent or cure anemia; lower your serum cholesterol by as much as half; eliminate or drastically reduce acid indigestion and gas buildup by cutting the heaviness of fatty foods; prevent or cure various forms of cancer; prevent or control diabetes mellitus; and, at the same time, have no negative side effects and selectively act on only what ails you,” (www.leaflady.org).

The salad in the pics consists of chopped kale and dandelions in a cashew garlic dressing, topped with pine nuts and Himalayan yellow raisins.
