WHAT’S HAPPENING INSIDE YOUR BODY?

av Filippa Salomonsson

tumblr_lzkk35KCov1qeerxd

Circadian Rhythms of Your Body:

  • Cycle 1 – Elimination (4am-noon) – This is the time your body uses it’s energy to heal and repair itself. It’s when elimination is most active. Eat juicy fruit or fresh juice only.
  • Cycle 2 – Appropriation (noon-8pm) – Digestion is at its strongest. This is the time to eat!
  • Cycle 3 – Assimilation (8pm-4am) – This is the time your body takes to extract, absorb, and utilize the nutrients in the food. Let your stomach retire.

Here is day 2! If you find you are hungry and need extra calories, keep a bag of organic mixed nuts with you (walnuts, almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts, etc.). Good tips for beginners.

Also, the reason for just having a nutritious smoothie and fruit in the am is because your body is still ”cleaning up” after the evening assimilation process until 12:00pm.

DAY 2: March 19th

Pre-Breakfast: Warm water with lemon

Breakfast: Omegalicious Smoothie

What do you need? 1 large handful spinach (or other dark green leaf veggies), handful raw pumpkin seeds, 1 tablespoon ground flax seed (or can use flax oil), 1 tablespoon hemp seeds, handful blueberries, 1/2 avocado, 1 cup water (or more/less depending on how thick you want it), 1 tablespoon bee pollen, and 1 tablespoon raw honey

How do you make it? Mix all ingredients in a blender and serve in glass with a festive colored straw

*If you cannot make it to lunch on this smoothie, either make more of the smoothie (adding primarily spinach) or have a fruit about 30-60 minutes after (so it’s fully digested).

Lunch: Cauliflower with Avocados & Olives (Recipe from Healthful Cuisine by Anna Maria Clement)

What do you need? 2 cups cauliflower, 1 avocado, ¼ cup red onion, ¼ cup fresh basil, ¼ Greek sun-dried olives or regular olives (pitted), 1/8 cup red bell pepper, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

How do you make it? Cut cauliflower in small pieces, dice avocado, red onion, & bell pepper, and chop basil & olives. Mix together, pour lemon juice on top, and stir. Add a touch of olive oil if needed. Serve with flax seed crackers on the side.

Afternoon Snack: Cinnamon Banana Shake (Recipe from One Lucky Duck)

What do you need? 3 cups frozen diced banana (dice it before you freeze it), 2 cups Brazil nut milk or almond milk, 3 tablespoons agave nectar or 2 packets of stevia, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt.

How do you make it? Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth and creamy. (It can be prepared in the morning and kept in the fridge throughout the day).

Dinner: Pesto Quinoa with Sun-dried Tomatoes

What do you need? Pesto (without cheese), red quinoa (make as much as desired), sun-dried tomatoes, and 1 carrot.

How do you make it?

  1. You can either soak the quinoa over night or cook it.
  2. Mix it with lots of pesto! Love this stuff and top with shredded carrots & sun-dried tomatoes, and any other veggies you desire. I love adding avocado as well (live on avocado).

  • In creating this menu, I tried to keep it simple (usually the way I eat anyways), easy for beginners, and assumed that you are not owners of dehydrators and juicers. You will need a mixer/blender though!
  • Personally I like variation and spend a lot of money on different food, so I’m not eating the same menu over and over. If you are on a budget, feel free to simply repeat your favorite dishes.
  • Allergic to nuts? Be careful here…
  • Please share your photos – would love to see your creations, variations, & suggestions.
  • Eat every 3-3.5 hours. If you feel that the portions are too small, just make more. You want to make sure you’re getting enough calories so your metabolism doesn’t slow down.
  • Drink 8 glasses of water throughout the day.
  • Let’s rock & roll!

DAY 1: MONDAY, MARCH 18th

Pre-Breakfast: Warm water with fresh lemon juice

Breakfast: Sweet Green Smoothie

What do you need? 1 banana, one big handful of spinach, 1 teaspoon bee pollen, 1 tablespoon flaxseeds, and a little less than 1 cup water (2dl)

How do you make it? Mix all ingredients in a blender and serve in glass with a festive colored straw

*If you cannot make it to lunch on this smoothie, either make more of the smoothie (adding primarily spinach) or have a fruit about 30-60 minutes after (so it’s fully digested).

Lunch: Red Cabbage Salad

What do you need? ¼ of red cabbage head (or more if hungry), 1/2 grapefruit, cold pressed olive oil, 1 small pack of raisins, Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt, and pepper.

How do you make it? Cut up cabbage and grapefruit, sprinkle olive oil, salt and pepper on top, add the raisins, and mix. Lunch is served!

Afternoon Snack: Dried Fruit

Options include: Mango, pineapple, peaches, pears, apricots, or apples

*Look for organic products without added sugar

Dinner: Swiss Chard Leaf Wraps

What do you need? 2 large Swiss Chard leaves (large lettuce leaves are another option), 1 ripe avocado, 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice, 1 bell pepper (any color of your choice), 1 tomato, 1 raw corn, Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt, and pepper.

How do you make it?

  1. Chop up the bell pepper and tomato. Combine in bowl.
  2. Cut the corn along each side, so the corn puffs fall off – combine with the chopped tomatoes and bell pepper. (Yes, raw. They give a sweet and crunchy taste).
  3. Cut avocado in half. Remove seed. Scoop out avocado from the peel, put in a mixing bowl. Using a fork, mash the avocado and add lime juice. Season with salt & pepper. (Voila guacamole!)
  4. Lay out a lettuce wrap and add all the prepared ingredients. Fold the sides in and then the tops. You’re done. Easy. Enjoy.

”Do not drink much liquid while eating. Try to drink your liquids 10 minutes before and/or 10 minutes after a meal. Otherwise, your digestive juices will be diluted and you will not digest your food completely” – Holistic Nutritionist Nikki Ostrower

THE WHITE WARRIORS IN OUR BODY…

av Filippa Salomonsson

I’m no mad scientist, and never was any good at math and chemistry, but found this super interesting! Shouldn’t this stuff be common knowledge? The white blood cells are truly warriors. And the body is so miraculous…

”Whenever a germ or infection enters the body, the white blood cells snap to attention and race toward the scene of the crime. The white blood cells are continually on the lookout for signs of disease. When a germ does appear, the white blood cells have a variety of ways by which they can attack. Some will produce protective antibodies that will overpower the germ. Others will surround and devour the bacteria,” The Franklin Institute.

FRUIT OF THE WEEK: MANGO

What does one juicy mango do for your body?

  • Provides pre-biotic dietary fiber – always beneficial for the flow of the colon – easy in, easy out. (Get more of this if you’re not doing number 2 on a daily basis, along with probiotics).
  • Provides vitamin A (horray!) – great for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin (let it shine).
  • Provides potassium (bananas aren’t the only heroes here) – Why do we need potassium? Because it helps our cells and body fluids control heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Provides vitamin C – this guy helps our immune system build resistance against the infectious agents (aka bad dudes).
  • Provides vitamin B6 – hello totally helps with your hormone levels. Importante for the chicas!
  • Provides copper, which produces red blood cells. Did you know the red blood cells perform the most important blood duty? Why? Because they remove waste! (the nasty stuff).

Damn do I feel good about all this stuff I’m about to eat! Grab one too… Oh and don’t worry if you accidentally swallow some mango peel – it’s rich in phytonutrients. 🙂
