You all know how much I like Melvin, THE juice man. Used to go to him EVERY morning when I lived in the West Village. And today I got an email from my friend Liza that included a link to info on his NEW place. Beyond excited here.

Definitely swinging by in the next couple days to give him a big fat hug (and buy a juice).

The images show a few variations of this pie… Here is how you make the base. 

First pulse 1/2 cup raw almonds in a blender, and then add 12 pitted dates, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoon cinnamon  – mix into a dough. Spread this onto a form. Add first layer of sliced fruit including 4 chopped bananas, 1/2 chopped pineapple (small pieces) or 2 sliced mangos, and give 10 strawberries a quick pulse in the mixer and add as a third layer. Decorate with shredded coconut around the edges and finalize with sliced kiwis and strawberries. Feel free to use other fruits if you like… but we prefer these. 🙂

Don’t put this in the oven kids!! It’s a raw beautiful organic pie for you and your body.

FASTING NOT STARVING

Fasting is the most powerful of all tools for cleansing the body. Most people ingest, as part of their diet, preservatives, insecticides, lead, arsenic, medication, and nicotine. Their bodies accumulate toxic waste products from wrong and/or badly combined food and from excessive eating. The body has a limited capacity to eliminate the toxic load. When the accumulation starts to interfere with proper function, the body sends out warnings: aches, pains, visible signs of disorder – it is time for housecleaning!

”The aim of fasting is to rest the body so that the vital force, which normally would be used for physical activity and for digestion & assimilation of food is freed for cleansing and healing… A fast of one day a week should be part of a healthy regime.”

Warning signs from the body:

  1. Unclear head, frequent upset stomach, aches & pains, and menstrual cramps
  2. Chronic constipation… inability to concentrate, uncontrolled temper, offensive body odors
  3. Continuous tiredness… The more toxic one is, the more sleep one needs
  4. Sallow, aging skin, dull or bloodshot eyes, and insomnia
  5. Addiction to sweets, coffee, cigarettes, and starches. Overeating
  6. Waking in the morning with a stuffy nose, mucus in the throat. Acid, bitter or salty taste in the mouth.
  7. Coated tongue from years of mucus-forming foods

EXCUSE ME? WHAT DOES NIACIN DO?

Threw these walnuts in my bag today – great Sundance snack! The nut is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B-1, B-2, and B-3, vitamin-E and niacin.

Side note… What does niacin do? It turns carbohydrates into energy – providing energy to the cells. Niacin also helps the body to detoxify, produce sex hormones, control blood sugar, and decrease cholesterol levels.
