Woke up this AM to a few emails from my friends with the subject line… ”New York Post.” Commented on a story about entertaing for picky eaters during the holidays (like me) and it hit newstands today.
Here are my tips:
”Filippa Svensson, who lives in Chelsea and works in p.r., became a raw vegan three years ago. When dining at people’s home, she will ask to bring something, pick around the available provisions or, more often than not, make a point of eating dinner beforehand.”
”When you go to someone’s house to be entertained, what you’re really going there for is not to eat, but to have a good time and hang out with these people,” says the 29-year-old. ”So food shouldn’t be the that important, becasue you’re together.”
So many of us have that ONE thing that we’re hooked on and eat from time to time (even though we know it’s bad for us…). Whether it be candy or coffee, I recommend flipping over and looking at the nutritional label. It might give you a reality check and open your eyes to what is actually going into your body. See how bad ”that” REALLY is for you!
My theory is that we need to satisfy the body first, then the mind – that doesn’t mean don’t enjoy your food, I’m just saying that your health should be priority. Healthy food can have incredible taste, there are certainly lots of options that will please both mind & body (like this beautiful coconut water that I’m drinking for breakfast right now – hello electrolytes and calcium, love you).
I had a serious ”grand-soy-chai-Starbucks-addition” I had to get over a while back… but after just glancing at the first couple lines of the label above (aka the big 43 grams of sugar starring right back at me) I stopped. AND you won’t be seeing me with a green & white cup anytime soon, at least not filled with this substance 🙂
I attend a monthly women’s group, mainly focused on meditation, and tonight’s session brought up gratefulness. From time to time, think we all forget to be thankful for what we have, so wanted to remind you all to think about everything you own and get to experience.
I wanted to send some love to my friend Julia. I am grateful for our friendship. xx
”Instead of thinking outside the box, get rid of the box,” – Deepak Chopra
Ingredients: 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1 cup raw agave, 1 1/2 raw cacao powder, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, 1 tsp. Himalayan sea salt. Blend all ingredients in a blender and poor over fruit.
Why eat this fruit, besides it’s unique taste?
Physalis is one of the best natural sources of antioxidants. It contains vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin A. These powerful antioxidants are essential to help keep us healthy and protect us against our environment.
Physalis also has vitamin P. Vitamin P is very important as it helps our bodies to absorb vitamin C and strengthen our immune system.
From time to time, I tend to include posts tied to spirituality. Connecting within, with your soul, spirit, inner guide – whatever you want to call it – is important for a few reasons. The outer body is a reflection of what is going on inside. Whether you are carrying around excess weight, have skin problems, constantly find yourself sick, or wake up to a tired looking face in the morning everyday, these are all reflections of inner needs that are not being met. These are signs that tell you that attention needs to be placed on an inner connection with yourself. Your soul or spirit is there to guide you – in all aspects of life, including your health. If you take care of it by listening, meditating, observing it’s signals, etc., it will take care of you, including your body. I was once told to see my body as the garden of my soul, as sacred, and to honor it. It’s actually miraculous – just think of the work it does for you… Also think of the negative commments and the ”bad” food you stuff it with on a daily basis, and STILL it keeps going, constantly trying to balance despite the way you treat it. We have to learn to truly love our bodies, because when we do, and treat it with respect, it will naturally land at it’s perfect weight. It will naturally restore it’s glow. It will become vibrant and healthy with ease.
So try this today. Sit in silence, focus your attention within, call upon your inner spirit, and simply connect with it. Feel the energy from within, feel your body parts from within – for example focus your attention on your heart, your hands, your stomach, and continue to do so for every part. It helps to play a piece of beautiful music while you do so. I recommd downloading tracks from Adam Plack & Deepak Chopra. It also helps to light a candle in honor of this moment.
I will focus on this more, but let’s take it step by step. 🙂 Have a beautiful Sunday.
I’m on a monthly detox, but not through the usual way of juice fasting. I simply add 30 drops from each of the 3 bottles above into a bottle of water. Each one serves a difference purpose… See below. The point is to release toxins, help the digestive system, and stimulate a cleansing process.
What does RAW mean to YOU?
To me it’s stands for…
