Have been there for lunch everyday since I arrived to the city… So happy that someone is finally putting some effort into real good raw food – not too gourmet, not too simple – just perfect. Any chance of opening up in Stockholm soon?

FRUIT OF THE WEEK: BLOOD ORANGE

Had a blood orange lately? If so, here is what you got, besides the yummy taste…

  • Vitamin C – immune system bam boost!
  • Folic Acid – also known as Vitamin B9. This guy is super important for forming red blood cells and for a healthy heart. Just one blood orange will give you the daily recommended amount of folic acid.
  • Anthocyanins – this stuff is found in the pigmentation of the juicy fruit and has anti-inflammatory properties. Also good for preventing cancer and diabetes. We like.
  • Calcium – great for health shiny teeth (smile) and those strong bones of yours… This is an essential mineral.
  • Vitamin A – This is a must for the body. Don’t you want healthy skin? Besides that it promotes regular development of skeletal tissue and teeth.

NEW RECIPES FROM KARINS GRÖNA VÄRLD

Love that raw food and healthy living is spreading like wild fire. New inspiration is everywhere! Karin Haglund is not new on the scene, but her book is… and has a ton of inspirational recipes and motivational tips. The book, Karins Gröna Värld, is a handbook for those looking to optimize their health, energy levels and realize how they can feel great. It offers a little bit of everything from healthy facts, over 100 different raw food recipes, workout advice, knowledge on the inner workings of the body, etc.

Karin was nice enough to give us a sneak peak and reveal delicious recipes. If any of you need an English translation let me know!

Grönkålssallad

1 liter finhackad färsk grönkål, 1 msk olivolja, ½ krm salt, 2 dl palsternacksris (ca 1 normalstor palsternacka som mixas i matberedaren till ett ris), 1 ask körsbärstomater, delade på mitten, 1 dl finhackad salladslök, and ½ dl strimlade soltorkade tomater i olja eller blötlagda.

Marinad till grönkål:

1 ½ avokado, ¼ dl olivolja, 2 msk citronjuice, 2 vitlöksklyftor, 3 cm färsk chili, 1 tsk riven färsk ingefära, 2 tsk tamari

Skölj grönkålen, skär bort stammarna, finhacka och lägg i en stor skål. Tillsätt 1 msk olivolja och lite salt. Massera in oljan med dina händer.  Mixa ingredienserna till marinaden i en mixer eller blanda i en skål. (Pressa då i vitlöken och finhacka chilin fint). Häll marinaden över grönkålen och blanda ordentligt. Tillsätt övriga ingredienser till salladen, rör om och toppa med skivad avokado.

Morotssoppa (2 portioner)

3 dl morotsjuice, 2 dl tjock hasselnötsmjölk, 1 avokado, 1 tsk citronjuice, 2 tsk torkad timjan, salt & peppar

Tjock hasselnötsmjölk: 1 dl hasselnötter, 2 dl vatten

Mixa hasselnötter och vatten, sila genom finmaskig sil eller nötmjölkspåse. Garnering: Grovhackade hasselnötter, morotsnudlar, färsk timjan och svartpeppar.

Mixa alla ingredienser i en mixer till en krämig soppa. Smaka av med salt och peppar. Garnera soppan med morotsnudlar, hackade hasselnötter, färsk timjan och lite extra svartpeppar.

So how can you end your food addiction? By realizing that food is medecine, it’s information, and eating the right kind. It’s also important to keep your blood level steady by having 3 meals a day with 1-2 snacks. Each meal should contain a good fat, protein, and healthy carb (ex. brown rice). You can put as much veggies as you want on there! It’s best to start by going cold turkey with sugar and completely shutting it off for a week. Watch the video, Dr. Mark Hyman will tell you more…

Ok this is the shit. Am I allowed to write that? Oh well, very excited about this product. Haven’t tried it yet, but heading over to Gryningen in Stockholm to purchase all the flavors pronto.

It’s organic + gluten free = me like.

10 Reasons to Stop Smoking (even the occasional cig at parties):

  1. Lowers your IQ… and speeds up mental decline which can lead to Alzheimer’s Disease.
  2. About 4,000 toxic chemicals are inhaled with every cigarette (40 of those chemicals are linked to cancer).
  3. Weaker bones…. Women smokers have been found to lose 2.3% to 3.3% of bone mineral density for every 10 years of tobacco use.
  4. It increases depression, especially in young people.
  5. Creates wrinkles in your face and gives you a grey skin shade (pretty… not).
  6. Stinky freaking breathe. Heck smelly all around – hair, car, home, jacket, and on & on.
  7. Makes exercise so much harder…
  8. Zaps your energy and money.
  9. Increased risk of a heart attack. Doesn’t matter if you’re 18 years old, prevention is key at any age.
  10. Makes you look ”uncool.” Don’t you want to respect yourself? Since when was your body a trash can?

So how do you escape this addiction? One of my favorite doctors in the whole world, Dr. Mercola, recommends quitting cold turkey as the only way to go. Help here.
