Regular Milk: It’s the milk we sipped growing up and would dunk our cookies in, right? Avanti says to watch your intake because of the high fat content. If you go cow, make sure to use low fat or nonfat.

Soy Milk; This soybean extract contains no animal fat or lactose and was arguably the first milk alternative. Avanti says to make sure you’re consuming this delight in small amounts because of its high estrogen levels. No more than three glasses a day, ladies!

Rice Milk; Made from boiled rice, syrup, and starch, it unfortunately has more carbohydrates than all the rest. (Why, oh why, are we always drawn to carbs?) It can spike your blood sugar levels, so Avanti says moderation is key.

Almond milk; All hail the mighty almond! This alternative has been a go-to product on shelves recently because of its fiber and protein. Avanti says check the back of cartons, as some have more sweeteners and less almond.

Coconut milk; his new kid on the block provides half of our necessary daily vitamin B12 intake in every glass! It’s perfect for those with allergies or annoying bloating issues! Another plus of this tropical milk is lauric acid, which has been shown to boost immunity. “We always want to boost liver and kidney function with exercise and being healthy. So you’re going to get all that with coconut milk.”
